What to Expect: Dental Crown Treatment

A dental crown is used to protect and reinforce a tooth that has been weakened by decay, fracture, or prior restorations. At Rise, crowns are planned conservatively to preserve as much natural tooth structure as possible while restoring strength and function.

Why a Crown May Be Recommended

When a tooth can no longer be predictably protected with a filling, a crown helps seal and stabilize the remaining structure. Our goal is to support long-term tooth health, proper bite function, and durability— not to overtreat.

Before Your Appointment

  • Medications: Most crown procedures do not require pre-medication.
  • Forms & Consent: All treatment plans and consent forms must be completed prior to treatment.
  • Temporary Crown: A temporary crown will protect your tooth while your custom crown is being made.

During Your Visit

  • The tooth is comfortably numbed for treatment
  • We conservatively shape and seal the tooth
  • A digital scan is taken to design your custom crown
  • A temporary crown is placed to protect the tooth during healing

Caring for Your Temporary Crown

  • Avoid very hard or sticky foods
  • Chew gently on the opposite side when possible
  • Floss carefully, sliding floss out instead of snapping upward

Temporary crowns are protective but not as strong as your final restoration. Proper care helps maintain comfort and protects the tooth during healing.

With thoughtful planning, quality materials, and routine care, crowns can last many years while supporting long-term oral health.
