Custom Nightguards · Cedar Park

Protect your teeth
from the forces you cannot always feel.

A custom biteguard can help protect teeth and restorations from clenching and grinding—but the right appliance starts with understanding your bite and why you need one.

Why a custom guard

The goal is protection,
not just something to sleep in.

Protect tooth structure

A custom guard can help reduce the direct impact of clenching and grinding on enamel, restorations, and worn edges.

Designed for your bite

The fit, thickness, contacts, and material are selected around your teeth and the reason the appliance is being prescribed.

Part of a bigger plan

A guard can be useful, but it is not always the whole answer. We also look at muscle tension, bite, TMJ symptoms, habits, and sleep-related clues when relevant.

Signs you may benefit

You wake with jaw soreness or tightness
You have visible tooth wear or chipped edges
You clench or grind during the day or at night
You have crowns, veneers, or other dentistry you want to protect
Your teeth feel sensitive from heavy bite forces
You have already tried an over-the-counter guard and disliked the fit

Important distinction

A nightguard is not
a sleep apnea appliance.

Protective biteguards and oral appliances for sleep-disordered breathing have different goals and designs.

If you snore, mouth-breathe, wake tired, or have other airway concerns, we may recommend a separate sleep and airway evaluation rather than simply making a standard guard.

Nightguard FAQ

Is a custom nightguard better than one from the store?

A custom guard is made from a scan or impression of your teeth and can be adjusted to your bite. Over-the-counter guards may work for some people, but they do not provide the same level of fit or occlusal control.

Will a nightguard stop me from grinding?

Not necessarily. A guard primarily helps protect teeth and manage forces. Clenching and grinding can have multiple causes, so additional evaluation may still be appropriate.

Can a nightguard help TMJ pain?

It can help selected patients, but TMJ symptoms are not all caused by the same problem. We evaluate the joint, muscles, bite, habits, and related factors before recommending an appliance.

How long does a custom biteguard last?

That depends on material, bite force, grinding intensity, care, and how much wear the appliance receives. We check it periodically and replace it when needed.

Do I need a guard after Invisalign or cosmetic dentistry?

Some patients benefit from protective or retention appliances after orthodontic or restorative treatment. The design depends on your treatment and bite.

What if I have snoring or sleep concerns too?

A standard protective nightguard is not the same as an oral appliance used for sleep-disordered breathing. If snoring or airway symptoms are present, we may recommend a separate sleep and airway evaluation.
